Shoes: Your 10 seconds ID

Boho                Rebel Luxe                      Swerve

Tis said you can tell a lot about a man by his shoes. Truer words have not been penned, However, this saying holds true for both men and women. You can tell a lot about anyone by their shoes, shoes are a way to say who you are and what you’re about, in 10 seconds or less. If you’re reading this post, chances are, you have a pretty solid shoe ID going. For those who are still cutting their teeth, here’s a guide as to how to wear shoes as not just a compliment, but the final finishing touch to an outfit.

  • First of all, the shoes make the outfit. Know that and make it your mantra.
  • Secondly, the perfect pair of shoes can take a look from “wow” to “Vogue front page” in seconds.
  • Thirdly, when it comes to footwear, never sacrifice style for comfort and vice versa. If they’re pretty and uncomfortable or comfortable and ugly, they’re a definite NO.
  • Last but not least, there are certain footwear that perfectly compliment certain outfits. Below is a concise list of the most basic outfits and what goes best. Also appended is a list of footwear you should never own.
Outfit Casual Day to Night Vogue!
Jeans and a tee Cork wedge sandals (always buy tapered wedges. Chunky wedges give you cankles) Solid black pumps (4 inch or higher)Throw on a cheeky little scarf too. Pull out the statement Spiked Litas byJeffrey Campbell or the platform wedge boots by ZiGi.
Sundress Flip flops Solid peep-toe wedges Chunky Doc Martens for a punk edge or sky high peep-toe six inch platforms for a va-va-vavoom look.
Shorts and a tank Converses/sneakers Lace up boots (platforms/wedge) Strappy stilleto sandals a la Jimmy Choo. (Make sure those gams are tanned and bronzed to perfection!)
Mini Flat gladiator sandals Solid tapered wedge sandals, or chunky heeled platforms Nothing complements a mini like ankle length boots. Pull out the rhinestoned cowboy boots. Titan’s Ash boots are a good place to start.
Midi skirt Warning: This is the trickiest length to pull off. If you’re averse to heels, don’t buy midis. Gladiator sandals with a bit of a heel/platform. Faryl Robin Amsterdam Gladiators are a good pointer. Tapered wedge peep-toe sandals (avoid cork) Chunky heeled platform boots. Litas and their lookalikes were made for midis. Up the ante with the Jolie platform boot by Dolce Vita.
Maxi Flip flops/sneakers (yes, sneakers and a maxi. Try it) Laceup ankle length heels Heels, heels, heels and more heels! Stilettos of course and strappy enough to make a Roman envious!

PS: If you own any of the footwear on the list below, throw them out post-haste and deny yourself a delicious treat for such a fashion faux pas!

  1. Crocs (Just for daring to type them, I won’t be having any cupcakes this week)
  2. Any heels lower than 3 inches. Kitten heels are for pansies, you my dear, are a fabulous fashion icon living in the new millennium. DISCARD at once!
  3. Anything that is white and patent leather. (*sigh* How could you?)
  4. Plastic shoes. (Are you a pre-teen? Are they Wellies/rainboots? No to both, out they go!)

What do you think? Do you agree or are we full of it? Let us know!
